Go Loco For Coco!
Whilst coconut has been around for many years, it has recently popped back onto the scene with an array of health claims – the oil for its long list of health benefits and the water for its high source of electrolytes and potassium to nourish and rehydrate the body.
Coconut oil is extracted from the meat of matured coconuts. Because of its high saturated fat content it is slow to oxidize and can withstand high cooking temperatures. Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids which work differently in the body and therefore do not have the same “bad fat” connotation as saturated fats.
Coconut oil has been deemed to assist conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, brain function and even dementia. Coconut oil also possesses antibacterial and antiviral properties making it wonderful oil for detoxification and traditional therapies such as oil pulling. With so much positive media attention health food stores and supermarkets cannot stock their shelves fast enough. Coconut oil can be used as a body moisturiser, mouth wash and warm oil treatment for the hair and the feet. Is there anything the wondrous coconut cannot do? Well actually yes. Whilst coconut oil is a fabulous skin softener and emollient it is still a saturated fat. Applying coconut oil to the face can be too occlusive resulting in excess oils and sebum being trapped in the skin. Regular topical application may therefore lead to bumps and congestion, a condition called acne cosmetica. Coconut oil is a great addition to your healthcare routine, but like anything use in moderation and stick to using moisturisers specifically designed for the skin.

1 x tablespoon of warm coconut oil
Massage half a tablespoon of the oil into each foot for an antiviral, nourishing foot treatment. For ultra-soft feet place a plastic bag over each foot and then cotton socks before going to bed. You will wake up with the softest feet ever!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a good remedy to remove product residue build up in the hair such as gels, sprays and serums. It also works as a natural hair detangler. If apple cider vinegar is used regularly in your hair care routine, it can leave the hair shiny, lustrous and smooth. The vinegar also works by smoothing the cuticle of the hair, which allows light to reflect off of it. You will be looking like Rapunzel before you know it!
Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse
2 x tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
2 x tablespoons cold water
Mix the apple cider vinegar and water together and pour over the hair after shampooing. Comb through the hair and then rinse off with tepid water. No need to use conditioner! Your hair will feel silky soft and look ultra-shiny.
