It’s that time of the year again, when we can feel the nip in the air and rain is starting to fall – Yep It’s almost Winter!  However, before the weather decides to play havoc with your skin, leaving it all blotchy and dry, it is wise to switch to a new skincare regimen to make sure your skin is protected through the cooler climate. So without further ado. Here is Skinstiut’s Top 5: Winter Warmers For Glowing Skin In Colder Weather.

1. Gentle Glow

Only use antioxidant rich, gentle cleansers that revitalise your skin while restoring its natural moisture. Winter is a time when your skin needs gentle products that help it lock the moisture inside rather than drying it out.  Always make sure you moisturise soon after you are done bathing/showing so that the pores can absorb the moisture faster Our Picks: Gentle Cleanser, L-Lactic Body Wash

2. Keep Yourself Hydrated

Drink at least eight glasses of water everyday to keep yourself hydrated, especially in the colder months because we spend so much time in air-conditioning, or having the central heating on to keep us warm – our skin needs even more hydration. You have to eat and drink right to keep your system in order. Foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids are good for your heart and reinforce the protective barrier function of the skin as well. Including flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon and also proteins in your diet will help to increase natural oils in your skin and hair. Our Picks: Rejuvenate 15, Hydrating Mask.

3. Sunscreen

You cannot stop sporting sunscreen thinking it’s a cold winter afternoon. UVA ageing rays are present all year round so applying a face SPF 50 is important to keep wrinkles at bay. Do apply SPF around thirty minutes before stepping out in the open to ensure adequate coverage and protection. If the sunscreen causes your skin to itch, use a sunscreen with additional moisturizing and antioxidant ingredients to hydrate the dry patches. Our Picks: Age Defence SPF 50+

4. Avoid Harsh Conditions

No matter how tempting it is to bathe with hot water, it must be avoided at all cost. Use lukewarm water for bathing and apply body lotion whilst the skin is skin slightly damp to lock in extra moisture. Hot water can sensitise the skin. Always rug up if you are out in cold winds, and make sure you use a protective moisturizer and lip balm to protect your cheeks & lips from harsh winter  winds. Our Picks:  Repair Balm

Winter can be the perfect time to peel back the layers of our skin and freshen up what has often been overexposed to harsh UV, by revealing a new layer of fresh skin.  For those who don’t know much about peels – “Chemical peeling consists of the application on the skin of exfoliating agents to obtain first, destruction and then regeneration of part of the epidermis and/or dermis.” Often Chemical Peels produce a controlled wound that will result in renewal with the reduction or disappearance of sun damage, pigmentation, and acne lesions, fine lines and wrinkles and superficial depressed scars. What do you think? Do you have any Winter Warmer tips that you use to keep your skin in good condition through Winter? We'd love to hear what your favourite product or tips are?
